Rinus van der Heijden, Brabants Dagblad: ’’That The Millennium Orchestra is able to achieves very much you can hear in the Kern Classic ‘Smoke gets in Your Eyes’. It is a very modern and clear instrumentation very different from the version The Platters gave it in the past. DEBORAH BROWN

Deborah, she is unquestionable one of world’s best female jazz singers. Surrounded by George Colligan, Joris Teepe and Gene Jackson a magnificent recording was growing. The musicians in this combination couldn’t fail to realize the most beautiful music. And they did. On this recording you can hear the combination of Deborah’s knowledge, skills and talent that makes her such a complete musician. She is not just singing the song, she takes it further, in a way an instrumentalist can do.

THE MILLENNIUM JAZZ ORCHESTRA
conducted by Joan Reinders with FAY CLAASSEN
‘SPECIALLY ARRANGED FOR FAY’
bmcd 381 – 18.00 euro
The Millennium Jazz Orchestra, arranged and conducted by Joan Reinders.
Fay: ’’It is difficult for me to put into words how great it is when a big band lift you up into the sky. Singing with a big band grabbed my imagination early on. I remember that even before I had studied big band music in depth, I called a big band leader to ask if I could sing with them just one time. I had really felt the kick and wanted to so something with it right away, but the reaction on the other end of the line quickly cooled my spontaneous eagerness. Singing with them was out of the question, I was informed, they only asked well-known singers for guest appearances. Disappointed and powerless to express my new-found excitement about this music, I hung up and accepted the situation - for the time being at least. Fortunately later on I was offered many other opportunities during my studies and was able to indulge my enthusiasm to the full.’’

Armed with the arrangements and with a musical concept in mind, I started rehearsing with a group of gifted musicians who were sensitive and open to my original concept, yet generous with their own creative initiative and drive. A genuine simplicity within the complex context and possibilities of this music has always been my goal. Next to well known standards you will find pieces by Sting and Hermeto Pascoal.
